On Monday April sixth, Wisconsin City Council member, Alec Lefeber, took to Tiktok to announce that Woodman’s filed a proposal for the Outlet mall. They plan to fully rearrange the area and make a store and gas station in the outlet. Many were arguing under the comments expressing how devastating it would be to take out some shops.
Mall history:
The Oshkosh Outlet Mall opened in 1990, and was a good hit. It was right next to EAA, making it a tourist attraction. In 2020, when Covid hit, the mall suffered a major loss in shop sales and customers. Due to that, many stores resigned or quit the location. However, some people argue that the place should stay due to its long term effect on locals and family.
As the mall has given Oshkosh the opportunity to open the doors to name brand stores like:Coach, Nike, Adidas, and North Face. In 2020, Adidas lost a major sale resigning the location of the outlet mall and moving out.
How would this affect us?:
A lot of the stores will either be bought out or stay in smaller parts of WI. The plan that was proposed takes up almost all of the outlet mall. Woodman’s also has plans to build a gas station.
I think this will be beneficial and will spark more people to have a reason to come to the outlet mall. Woodman’s is employee owned, which means they are flexible and bend with their customers. If one thing is more popular than the other, they can band the needs of the locals to fit the taste, culture, and wants of groceries. That’s mainly the reason why a lot of Woodman’s stores are different.
So what do you guys think? Do you think it will be beneficial or do you think it’ll be a hassle?
