The Present Age is an art-punk four-piece band out of Oshkosh, Wisconsin. The members of the band include Issac Lamers on drums, Logan Lamers on vocals and guitar, Nigel Magana on bass, and Brandon Resop on guitar. The Present Age has been around since 2019, but some of the members have been playing together since childhood. So far in their journey, The Present Age has four albums, eight singles, and two EPs that can be streamed on Spotify or Bandcamp. On their album, Radio Static Intelligible the song “The Question” is for sure a great listen. I love how it quickly jumps into an intense guitar part with powerful lyrics.
The Present Age even records and mixes their own music. “Issac records and mixes all of our music. Producing a record is an intimate experience, and it’s important for us to have control over our ideas and goals throughout the process. He’s a very knowledgeable and patient engineer.” said Logan Lamers. From what I’ve listened to, The Present Age has a variety of different sounds. Some of their songs are more fast and intense, while others lean towards being experimental sounding and have a more complex rhythm.
According to the band, the three major musical influences that brought The Present Age together include the Velvet Underground, The Cure, and Television. Since The Present Age is a local band, I asked what some of their favorite places to perform in Oshkosh are. “We cut our teeth at Jambalaya Arts, so that place will always be special for us. New Moon Cafe is consistently a great experience. When Eroding Winds hosts shows, they’re frequently our favorites. All three places have had a profound impact on the Oshkosh music community.” said Logan.
The Present Age’s future involves finishing an upcoming record, so more amazing music is yet to come! “A lot of time and effort has been put into this next record, and with it we want to connect with as many people as we can. We’re not good at industry practices or operating like a business, but we feel strongly enough about our work that it’s time we started yelling about it.” said Logan.
