On February 5th, 2026, 2x NBA All Star and Olympic Gold Medalist, Tyrese Haliburton, was inducted into Oshkosh North High School’s Hall of Fame.
Making a return since his last visit in December, where he surprised the entire Oshkosh North Basketball program with his brand new Hali 1’s, “Oshkosh North” limited edition basketball shoes. Haliburton was asked back to be inducted into the school’s hall of fame because of his continuous hard work and dedication for the love of the game.
Before joining the National Basketball Association and playing at Iowa State University, Haliburton had to take the skills he’s learned from ONHS, and reapply them at the collegiate level.
“I think high school is establishing leadership qualities, and the base level of who I am as a person. That’s what growing up in high school is, it kind of lays the groundwork for where you will continue to be.” Haliburton Said.
Not only has North helped provide Haliburton in the classroom and on the court, it was during his time there that he realized he could achieve his dream of making it to the NBA.
After winning a state championship and graduating with the class of 2018, Haliburton committed to Iowa State University to continue his basketball career. Before getting drafted to the league his sophomore year of college, Haliburton had some hoops that needed to be made.
“I think the part that we don’t talk about enough is time management. As I go to college and then I go to the NBA, I’m becoming an adult. I gotta study, especially in college, you gotta study, and try to maintain good grades, but also, I have all this time on my hands to be figuring [stuff out]. Time management is really important, not just for me, but for any college student. So then just taking that to the NBA, that’s even more freedom. Now I don’t have school. So, how do I be the perfect professional and manage my time correctly?” Haliburton expressed.
After winning gold with the U.S.A Men’s Olympic Basketball team in 2024. Haliburton did an interview with North Star alumnus, Dominic Centner. During this interview Haliburton voiced that it only takes one person.
When asked if he still believes in that motto, Haliburton reiterated.
“Oh, for sure. I think a lot of times, success and getting noticed with that big break, a lot of good things have to happen. But a lot of times, to do great things, there has to be some luck involved.
like every successful person will tell you; ‘Oh, I was just in the right room at the right time.’ At some point, somebody noticed me, and that’s what helped me.”
After tearing his right Achilles tendon during the 2025 NBA Playoffs, Haliburton has taken this season to focus on his off-court knowledge and appreciating the game from a different perspective.
“The biggest thing with basketball, is my passion. I love doing it, so to not be able to do it this year, it really sucks. I’ve spent a lot of this year just learning. Knowing all that I know now, I think just whenever you get hurt, whenever something’s taken away from you that you love, you realize, I might have taken it for granted.”
As the regular NBA season is nearing the end, Halliburton will continue to cheer on his team, and value everything he has, while also taking all he’s learned in the seasons to come.
