Dancing into the new year

Oshkosh North has many things to be proud of. Especially their Dance Team. With years passing, the team just gets better and better and nothing can stand in their way. The girls have been at their best ever this season,

“This is the most competitive team I’ve been on in 3 years,” said senior Izzy Hodgen.

Recently, the dance team participated in the Watertown Dance Competition. The team placed 4th, out of 8 teams, at the Wauwatosa hip-hop dance competition (considered to be one of the hardest competitions), their hopes and motivation have gone up,

“I really believe we can make it to state. We all just have to work for it,” said senior Jocelyn Tapia.

The team has been exceeding expectations and doing better than they thought. With each achievement, they grow as a team. The team’s bond is something that is rare to find. It is very rare to find so much love and support on a sports team,

“The best part of this sport is coming to practice. If I’m ever having a bad day, the team always makes me forget and puts a smile on my face,” said Tapia.

Although, Tapia and Hodgen are not the only ones that have high hopes for the team. Coach Charlotte Golliher as high hopes for the team as well,

“I feel confident in our ability to place at state this year. We are up against a variety of strong competing teams, which makes our journey to the state floor difficult but also makes it that much more rewarding,” Golliher said.

A team’s success is shown by how proud a coach is. A coach develops and makes a team to what they become. A team can only improve with a guided mentor, and Coach Golliher fulfills that.

“After getting that initial competition under our belt [winning fourth place in division one hip-hop], I foresee us improving as the season progresses,” Golliher said.

With Golliher’s motivation, the girls will strive their best to fulfill their journey to state and make North even more proud of their dance team.
