High school students are often looking for opportunities to gain volunteer hours and experience, but don’t know where to start. Oshkosh has many different opportunities to be a part of organizations that align with many different interests, which is a great way to start doing something important and making an impact!

Oshkosh Area Humane Society

If you are someone who likes animals, volunteer work at the humane society could be a great fit for you. Volunteers are able to sign up for shifts to spend time socializing with cats, small mammals, or dogs. In order to volunteer at OAHS people must participate in a short training which can be registered for online. Following a short one day training and orientation, volunteers can use a website to register for shifts to volunteer on their own schedules.

Ascension Mercy Hospital and Aurora Hospital

Volunteering within a hospital system can be a very beneficial and rewarding opportunity for individuals looking to enter a career in the medical field. Not only does volunteering in a hospital help to earn experience in hospital settings but success in this type of volunteering can help volunteers form connections within the hospital system for shadowing and other career readiness opportunities.

 Oshkosh Area Community Pantry

The Oshkosh Area Community pantry is located near Oshkosh North, making it very accessible. The community pantry relies on hundreds of volunteers each week to help stock shelves so that products are ready as people need them. In addition to stocking shelves, volunteers assist with food distribution. This opportunity is also open to both individuals as well as groups.

St. Vincent De Paul Thrift Store

St. Vincent De Paul Thrift Store is also a conveniently located option both right next to the Community Pantry and very close to North. Volunteers are needed to sort and price clothing and merchandise to make it ready for the sales floor as well as to work as cashiers. This opportunity is available to both individuals and groups.

Day By Day Warming Shelter

The Day By Day Warming Shelter serves the Oshkosh community through providing a meal and a place to stay for up to 50 people each night. In order to make this happen, Day By Day relies on volunteers. Volunteer positions include being a member of a meal team who prepares and serves dinner, or as a hospitality volunteer who engages with guests as well as takes care of general housekeeping roles. While volunteering at Day By Day is a great opportunity, it is only open to those who are 18 or older.
