The Oshkosh North Spartans varsity soccer team’s season came to an end in Whitefish Bay Sat., Oct.31. They lost, 4-1, to the n0. 1 ranked Blue Dukes.

Senior Nick Lemmens scored the first and only goal of the night for the Spartans early in the first half. A series of free kicks led to 2 points for the Blue Dukes late in the first half which would be enough to seal the game as there was no scoring in the second half.

Despite the loss, the Spartans achieved great things this year by making it the WIAA sectional finals, something that rarely happens in any sport.

Junior goalkeeper Kyle Gillingham said, “ Nobody expected us to become regional champions and lead a winning season this year, but we did and it made us stronger as a program. I am very excited to see who steps up to fill empty spots next year.”

Gillingham earned second team all-conference for his efforts this season.

Looking toward next season, the Spartans return many of the players that led them this far, giving them hope for more success.

Junior defender Myles Widmann said, “ We shattered expectations from our first game on after tying defending conference champs Kimberly. I was excited to be able to compete in the playoffs against very good team including Cedarburg. Obviously I am disappointed in the loss but we fought hard and I’m looking forward to next season.”

Widmann is one of the three Junior defenders who will be returning for next season.
