March means the madness returns

February 27, 2019

The boys’ basketball season continues this Friday when they take on the Eau Claire Memorial Old Abes at the North Fieldhouse for the first round WIAA boys basketball tournament. This is not a regular season game, so the cost of entry will be $5, and student ID’s are not valid for entry.

Eau Claire Memorial is powered by their leading scorer, Caden Boser, who currently holds scholarship offers from The University of Milwaukee and The University of Green Bay. The Junior has led his team to a 13-8 record for the regular season and is currently averaging 22.8 points per game.

The Spartans are 3-2 in their last five games and are fresh off a close loss to a solid Appleton West team that would likely matchup with North if both teams win this Friday. As for Eau Claire Memorial, they are on a two-game win streak and are also standing at 3-2 their last five games, following wins against Eau Claire North and Rice Lake.

As of last year’s playoffs, Eau Claire Memorial had an early first-round exit to Oshkosh West, only losing by four points, and the Spartans defeated Brookfield East to take home the gold.

With a week’s worth of preparation, both teams will hope to begin momentum on Friday for a deep run in this year’s playoffs.
