On April 16, 2025. 2:54 PM The Oshkosh Area School District announced that one thousand bricks have been harvested from Merrill Middle School. According to the Advance Titan, Merrill Middle school dated back all the way to 1901. It carried many generations of family and friends. You might also have been a student as well, but why one thousand bricks? What for? And why? The Oshkosh Area School District has also said that “The brick giveaway” will be on May 6-7 giving one thousand bricks that are holding the most historical parts of the building for anyone and everyone to keep a part of Merrill with them.
There are memorials planned to be where Merril Middle used to stand. A memorial site has been talked about for Christine Fredrick, a former student at Merril Middle who was fighting cancer but sadly passed away on January 25, 2010. Denise Williams will be given a tree for the memories of her. She also was a seventh grader when she sadly passed away on the 6th of July 2000.
Hopefully this building stays a part of all of us as it created so much security for not just the last students but former students, too with so many stories and memories. Merrill Middle gave us these memories, friends and more. If you want a part of Merril Middle, The Brick Giveaway will be Tuesday, May 6, from 12 p.m. to 2 p.m and Wednesday, May 7, from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m.
