This year ONHS has welcomed a new media specialist through its doors!
Kimberly Collins is our newest media specialist here at North!
Ms. Collins was originally born in the state of Washington but grew up in Appleton and Kimberly. She attended UW-Stevens Point for her bachelor’s degree in Education & History, then moved on to UW-Milwaukee for her Master’s in Library and Information Science. She was originally a social studies teacher for 4 years before switching the page over to being a full-time media specialist, making this her 8th year overall in education.
When asked about her first job, she responded, “My first job was working in the garden center at Shopko.”
Fun fact: There used to be a Shopko here in Oshkosh, but it closed down on June 16, 2019; now the land is currently being used as a CubeSmart Self Storage facility.
During her free time away from North, she likes to spend time with her family and different forms of entertainment. She currently, like many other people right now, is rewatching the hit show Dexter. When it comes to genres, she stated, “My favorite genres to read are romance and fantasy,” while film-wise she dips more towards rom-coms and true crime documentaries.
Another question I asked was, “Would you rather have dinner with your favorite author or your favorite book character?”. This question was difficult for her, but she ended up saying dinner with her favorite author. Sara J. Maas, author of the famous book A Court of Thorns and Roses, is one of Ms. Collins’s current favorite authors.
Nearing the end of our interview, I wanted to know how she was enjoying North so far. She replied, ”I really like North; it was a bit of an adjustment going from elementary to high school, but I enjoy the staff and the students.” Ms. Collins also mentioned that she is excited to gather a better understanding of what the students and staff might want to see in the media center.
If you want to learn anything more about her, you can always find her in the media center, or if you ever have any questions about the best romance and fantasy books, she’s the person you want to hit up.
