On October 28th, 2024, Tyler, The Creator dropped his 8th album, CHROMAKOPIA. Fans have been waiting for a new release from him ever since his latest album, CALL ME IF YOU GET LOST, came out in 2021
CHROMAKOPIA consists of 14 songs and is 53 minutes long. On the first day of the release, I listened to the whole album throughout the day. I wasn’t in a rush to listen to the album because I knew I would hear all about it on TikTok. However, one of my friends recommended that I listen to it ASAP because of how good it is; he was right.
If you listen to Tyler, The Creator, you know he is a very diverse artist. He has the ability to range from different tempos and genres within his music smoothly, which can be a very valuable tool to have in the music industry today.
This specific album from start to finish follows Tyler through his thoughts of self-doubt and insecurities, to then leading to him talking about settling down. In the intro of multiple songs, you’ll hear his mom talking to him like a little boy.
One of the most popular songs on the track right now is “Darling I.” I asked one of my peers, Kelton Jones, what he thought about this song. He replied, “My favorite song on the album is Darling I, because of Tyler talking about how he can’t get all of what he needs from one person, and a lot of people don’t understand that from the album.”
The song that he’s referencing starts with Tyler’s mom saying, “Whatever you do, don’t ever tell no b**** you love her. If you don’t mean it, don’t tell us”.
She goes on to say more questionable things in other songs similar to this one. From my point of view his mom might’ve been projecting her own feelings about relationships onto him as a young boy. Hearing things like this from a young age can’t be easy to grapple with, as I imagine it would be difficult for you to deal with in the future when it comes to your own relationships.
During his first verse, he says, “Darling, I keep (keep falling in love)” and so on. In a way, his mom would have scared him into committing to one person, hence why he keeps on “falling in love” because he’s scared to be committed to someone forever. Within the song, he’ll sing about all his different cars, hinting that he uses them for different seasons and purposes. Towards the end of the song, he’ll finally admit that he does the same with people. Despite that, he is now trying to reverse that thinking when it comes to relationships.
The album has been out for a couple of weeks now and it continues to do amazing on the charts. With more than half of the songs reaching the Billboard Hot 100! My personal favorites from the album are: Thought I was dead, Sticky, Like him, and Noid. Now, I’m definitely not a Tyler Mega fan, but I do like to indulge in some of his music. So in all realness, I really enjoyed this album. I wasn’t sure what to expect, but after fully listening and trying to analyze all the songs almost ten times. I can for sure say that it’s one of my favorite albums of 2024.
