Oshkosh North High School has a variety of clubs, and with every new school year that comes, more clubs seem to pop up and fall under many student’s (who would probably love them) radars.
Crochet Club is one of the newer additions to the ONHS club list. Founded last year by their ‘Founding Fathers’ JD Boyd and Hannah Conrad, the goal of the club was to teach crocheting and get new people into the craft. Their first big project was making a blanket out of granny squared for one of their fellow classmates that was diagnosed with cancer. This project was a great way to get people to join the club.
Crochet Club has continued into this year, and will host an excel session every other Friday. Their new project so far is making hats and mittens for the students at Jefferson Elementary. If you have an interest in joining Crochet Club, please feel free to sign up for any of their excel sessions.
Another new club at North is the Dungeons and Dragons club. Founded just last year, the DND club seeks to bring new gamers to the game, and overall have fun playing the RPG. They meet once a month after school to play, and will sometimes have meetings during excel to discuss the sessions.
Interested in joining? They will announce meetings throughout the school year. Whether you’re a seasoned DM or a newbie player, all you need to do is show up and bring your imagination. Feel free to bring along a character sheet and your own dice if you have any, but no worries if you do not have any! The club has extra, and is always willing to share.
Forensics here at Oshkosh North is turning into a very vibrant club. Hearing the name forensics might lead you to believe that we have a club at North that investigates crime scenes, but Forensics is actually a public speaking club which prepares members for their many competitions. Members will usually only meet a few times a year, but will practice their speech from one of the 18 topics you can compete for, such as poetry, newscasting, storytelling, and much more.
North’s team always performs at state, and usually brings home big wins, but last year, North secured almost perfection in their overall score, and had seven Spartans bring home the gold! Interested in joining Forensics? If so, please contact Mrs. Ames to see how to join!
Another extra curricular at North is Stage Society. Headed by Mr. Greene, Stage Society is a group for people who have a love and passion for the dramatic arts. While not directly related to the two plays and musical, many members of Stage Society partake in the shows.
If theater (musical or not) is where your heart lies, feel free to sign up to be on crew for this year’s musical, Catch Me If You Can. While auditions for the show have not happened yet, they are always looking for people to help move scenery, set props, or have creative fun to help out. If interested, please contact Kaisten Feiter for more details.
