As the leaves begin to change color and the weather gets colder and colder, that’s when you know it’s official! Fall has arrived–with that comes the ever so loved spooky season. So with Halloween being just around the corner, thoughts naturally run to all things pumpkin and spooky. But behind all the costumes and candy, there’s another aspect of the season that some might overlook: Horror movies. For many, Halloween connected to horror films. So join us as we shine light on some highly favored cinematic treasures, perfect for getting into the spirit of the season.
The first movie recommended is the (2019) slasher film Haunt. This film follows a group of friends who visit an extreme haunted house attraction on Halloween night. As they begin to venture deeper into the terrifying maze, quickly discovering that the performers are not just actors, but actual killers. Haunt combines elements of horror and suspense
, keeping viewers on the edge of their seats as the characters fight for their survival.
Next on our list is the (2013) film The Conjuring. This story follows our two main characters, Ed and Lorraine Warren, who are paranormal investigators. Throughout the film Ed and Lorraine help a family as they are being terrorized by a dark presence in their new home. As the night progresses the Warrens discover the dark history of the house and realize that the family is facing a very powerful and demonic spirit. The Conjuring is famous because it uses many suspenseful scenes and a handful of jump scares. Many loved this movie because it is also based on a true story.
Another highly recommended film on our list is the (2016) slasher film Terrifier. A film about a maniacal clown who developed the name Art. This clown goes around and terrorizes and murders people on Halloween night. Terrifier is well known for its extreme violence, gore, and gained a large fan base for its disturbing and relentless portrayal of gruesome horror. Terrifier is not for the weak, nor suitable for all audiences.
In 1996 a cult classic came out. What might that be you ask? Scream. Scream follows the story of a group of friends in high school who are stalked and terrorized by an unknown killer who has earned the nickname “Ghostface.” This film pays homage to the tropes of the slasher genre while keeping all of its audience on the edge of their seats. Scream is filled with suspense and unexpected twists, leaving everyone wondering what’s to come next.
The final movie on the list has was extremely recommended, Insidious (2010). This supernatural horror film follows the story of a family who moves into a new home, where they quickly begin to notice paranormal activities. One night the youngest of the family falls into a coma and strange apparitions haunt the house. The family seeks help from paranormal experts in hopes of saving their son’s life and to get rid of the evil presence in their home. Insidious is well known for unexpected plot twists and chilling scares.
