Five Films to Get You Into the Fall Mood

Ruby Snow, News Editor

Now that it is officially fall, there’s no better way to cozy up and get yourself into the mood than with some autumnal films! Below is a list of five movies that I find serve as great accompaniments to your favorite sweater and a hot drink.

Coraline (2009)

Running time: 1h 55m

The Jones family has just moved into the Pink Palace Apartment complex, which appears to be overwhelmingly dull in spite of its given name. Despite this, eleven-year-old Coraline is on a mission to find something interesting about their new home—what she doesn’t expect to discover, though, is the door to another world. If you’re looking for a timeless yet eerie film, this is the one for you.

Dead Poets Society (1989)

Running time: 2h 8m

If you’re searching for an endearing and emotional film to ease you into fall, you’ve found it. Dead Poets Society follows unconventional Mr. Keating and his class in a strict, all-boys school. This movie urges watchers to live life more purposefully and passionately– Carpe diem!

Beetlejuice (1988)

Running time: 1h 32m

Best described as a horror comedy, Beetlejuice follows a deceased couple seeking to get rid of the obnoxiously eccentric family who have just moved into their home. In desperate search of help, they call on Beetlejuice, a malevolent entity who is far more than they bargained for.

When Harry Met Sally (1989)

Running time: 1h 36m

A romantic comedy at its core, When Harry Met Sally is a charming film showcasing the best of autumn in New York. After their 18 hour drive from Chicago to NYC, Sally Albright and Harry Burns decidedly resolve to hate one another. However, as they continue to run into each other over the years, an unexpected friendship develops.

Fantastic Mr. Fox (2009)

Running time: 1h 27m

When Mr. Fox finally gives into his instincts and raids the farm near his family’s underground home, their main focus quickly becomes surviving the retaliation of their human neighbors Boggis, Bunce, and Bean. A mix of both adventure and comedy, this lively film with its autumnal tones and scenery will put you right into the fall mood.
