Construction continues on new Athletic field

The construction of Oshkosh North’s turf field has resumed after a winter break, with the installation of light poles. Soon touchdowns will be thrown and soccer goals will be kicked with the completion date expected to be by this fall.

The construction team plans to return for the first time since last fall.

“We are about a week out from the construction company returning to keep working on the field,” says Athletic Director Craig Lieder.

The construction of the field started after the football season in the fall of 2021 and was halted due to the harsh Wisconsin winter. Now with spring almost here, it’s time to finish the job.

While the workers will return to North soon, work has continued behind the scenes. Currently, a company in Green Bay is building the press box where some coaches and announcers will sit. It will be delivered upon completion.

There are only a few more steps before they lay the turf and build the bleachers, including adding gravel and compacting it.

Originally, the Director of Building and Grounds of The Oshkosh Area School District, Jim Fochs, had hoped to get the field finished by November of 2021. This date has come and gone.

“We are hoping that the field will be serviceable in the coming months, and ready for fall sports this upcoming year,” says Lieder.

The new field will mainly be used for freshman and JV games for both soccer and football.

“ We may play some varsity soccer and football games there, but the majority of the varsity games will still be played at Titan stadium. This is because our stands will have a 500-person capacity,” says Lieder.

Stay tuned for a final update once the field is completed.
