Fantasy Corner Week 5
October 5, 2021
We have had a rather calm week in the NFL this week, other than the Jets upsetting the Titans proving that anyone can beat anyone. There were a ton of fantasy sleepers this week, from Damien Williams and his 16 point performance in the wake of a David Montgomery injury to a 37 point performance by Cordarrlle Patterson.
This is another week and another issue of the Fantasy Corner. We will go over my top five pickups of the week. It was a calm week, but we have some players trending in great direction to become huge producers as the season goes on. Read below to look at some of this weeks top pickups.
- My number 1 pickup has to be Cordarlle Patterson who had an incredible week tallying 11 total touches including 6 rushes for 34 yards and 5 receptions for 82 yards and 3 touchdowns. Making him one of the top scorers in the NFL fantasy-wise this week with 36.60 PPR points. Patterson is becoming a must-start each week as he is starting to earn a role out of the backfield both as a rusher and receiver as he has put up 16 points or more in 3 of the 4 weeks thus far. He is my number one pickup this week. Scoop him up as soon as you can.
- AJ Green is a name that we all know but havent heard in several years. Boy has he been turning back the clock the past two weeks and has seen exactly 6 targets each week thus far. He had a great game this week hauling in a 41 yard touchdown from Kyler Murray early in Sunday’s game. If Green can stay on this pace this season, he is worth a bench spot or even a mid range flex option. Green has a huge upside if any of the Cardinals receiving core gets injured. If you have an extra spot, Green is the guy to go to.
- Coming in at the 3 spot this week is Sam Darnold, a man who has found new life in Carolina. Darnold put up an astonishing 34 points this week against the Cowboys. The Panthers may have lost, but Darnold is becoming a huge fantasy value, rushing for 2 scores and throwing 2 scores. He has been a top 5 point producing quarterback this season, finishing with no less than 21 points in each of the first four games. I would pick up Darnold and start him if you can. He has a huge upside against a shaky secondary for the Eagles.
- Now we go to a tight end in Dallas. No, it’s not Jason Witten but rather Dalton Schultz who found the endzone again this week, marking his third of the year and second game in a row. He has a huge upside with the pass heavy game played in Dallas. He is surrounded with superstars at wideout which allows Shultz to slip into the cracks for sneaky gains. He is a great TE 1 option and plays a very porous Giants secondary next week and will look to repeat a similar week during week 5. I would snatch him up before someone else does.
- Now comes time for the 5 spot where we look at a player to stash on your bench who has potential to be a breakout player later in the season. We are going to go with Randall Cobb of the Green Bay Packers. He had a great week against a stout Pittsburgh secondary, hauling in two touchdowns from his longtime quarterback Aaron Rodgers. If they can keep this up, Cobb will draw big time targets in the red zone which would command a flex position later on in the season
Thank you for joining me on another week of Fantasy corner!
